From www.thetimesnews.com on 12/22/99 Mr. George Allen Shatterly BURLINGTON — Mr. George Allen Shatterly, 72, of 550 Spence St., died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health, one month critical. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Stella Shockley Shatterly, who survives, and the son of Mr. George Alexander Shatterly and Mrs. Julia Thompson Shatterly, both deceased. He was retired from Burlington Industries Pioneer Plant. He was a Christian. Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Miss Kathy Elaine Shatterly of the home and Mrs. Julia Ailene Akins of Graham; a son, Mr. George Allen Shatterly III of Swepsonville; three sisters, Mrs. Bonna Atkins of Graham, Mrs. Judy Combs of Burlington and Mrs. Karen Spicer of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Mr. Harold Shatterly and Mr. Raymond Shatterly, both of Burlington, and Mr. William “Bill” Shatterly of Fort Walton, Fla.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vickie Shatterly; an infant son, Ricky Shatterly; and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Jane Rich and Mrs. Oppie Lou Davis. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Gene Akins, interim pastor of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Asheboro. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
